Sweaty Church
Sweaty Church is a monthly Sunday afternoon service designed for busy and active families. Using both the inside of the church and the adjacent outdoor field we create an energetic active learning environment aimed at children 7-11, their siblings and parents.
We wanted to develop a service that helped families who were already hugely busy Sunday mornings with sports and other recreational commitments. We also wanted to create a very different service that put an emphasis on involvement rather than just attendance.
We gather everyone together for the first 30 minutes of the service, during which time the team and children lead the singing and e
xploration of the theme through games, activities, drama and competitions.
We then have 'half-time' with the obligatory orange segments. In the second half, the parents go to the cafe area and discuss what this theme looks like within family life, whilst we split up the children into 2 age groups to embark upon some other games and crafts to emphasise and develop the theme.
We finish the service with toast and prayer - what could be a finer way to end a Sunday afternoon!!
